World road champion Cadel Evans is opting not to renew is contract with Silence-Lotto, but is being silent, so far, on what team he will ride with in 2010.
The team announced Saturday that Evans was executing an opt-out clause in his contract. The Australian has been with the Belgian team for five seasons. The press release from the team did not say anything about Evans' plans for next season, but did wish him well in his 'beautiful rainbow jersey."
At Silence-Lotto Evans has finished on the Tour de France podium twice and achieved his biggest win at the world championships this year. In the 2009 Tour de France, in particular, Evans' team support was considered the weakest of any of the overall contenders, a status that was evident when the team finished 13th in the stage 4 team time trial, more than 2 1/2 minutes behind stage winner Astana.
