With just 3 weeks remaining before he will defend his Ironman Hawaii World Championship, Chris McCormack was a winner at the 2008 Nautica Malibu Triathlon.
The Malibu Triathlon serves as a fundraiser for the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles. All told, $125,000 was raised this year. The event is attended by many big name actors and stars, some of whom turned in excellent results.
One such actor is Matthew McConaughey, who clocked a very fine 1:30:44. His bike split for the 18 miles was 54:45, not too shabby at all. And to top that off, he turned in a 27:26 run split for the 4 miles, a 6:52 clip over the distance. This is really a remarkably good time, and in part it may be attributed to some of the training McConaughey did with his friend Lance Armstrong. Another notable finish was turned in by Jennifer Lopez, who placed 5th in the women's celebrity division with a time of 2:23:38. Tiffany Amber Thiessen was another swim-bike-run enthusiast in the race. Other attendees at the triathlon were William Macy, Felicity Huffman, Jon Cryer, Mark-Paul Gosselar, and former tennis pro Anna Kournikova. The Malibu Triathlon emcee was none other than Cindy Crawford.
